Which social networking site do u think is the most popular one? Orkut or Facebook?ORKUT right?Most of the Indians and Brazilians think its ORKUT.But its not Orkut,instead its Facebook.
Orkut is really famous in India and Brazil,because of simplicity in its usage and Facebook is famous in North America and other western countries.
The above graph shows the comparision between the 2 popular social networking sites.The blue line shows Orkut's traffic and the red one Facebook's.
One more fact is that Facebook is the 8 th most visited site and Orkut is not even in the top 100.The only reason why we feel Orkut is more popular than Facebook is because 1/4th of population in India are registered in Orkut.
The basic reason for why Facebook is not popular in India is Facebook did not adopt a good marketing strategy,where as Orkut did,and so it holds a vast market share .There are other reasons too like Facebook is a bit more complex when compared to Orkut for the beginners.
Now keeping in view all these things Orkut team came up with a new version of Orkut,which is more like a copy of Facebook.is it not?As one of my friends pointed out "Orkut is an Ambassador and Facebook a Mercedes Benz" isn't it? Orkut has lost all its sheen by the arrival of the new version.Features like WALL in Facebook are Copied (instead ripped ) in the new version of Orkut.Things look a bit clustered and the fonts are really horrible.
But there is a greater increase in the speed and the response time of Orkut now,and features like adding images(even . gif baby!) and videos to your " about me " section are cool right?
Will these things increase the ratings of Orkut? I doubt.
